Rooted in History

Timeless Faith, Holy Sacraments

The Chapel of the Holy Spirit, located at 118 South Bradford Street in Dover, Delaware, is a peaceful and spiritually rich Orthodox Old Catholic parish, deeply rooted in ancient Christian tradition. As a member of the Old Catholic Communion of North America, it upholds apostolic succession and offers the full sacramental life—Eucharist, Baptism, Confirmation, Confession, Matrimony, and Anointing of the Sick—within a reverent, chant-filled liturgical setting. Experience the beauty of Orthodox tradition passed down through centuries.

Faith in Action

Whether you are seeking a new spiritual home or returning after years away, there is a place for you. The Old Catholic Church professes and provides seven sacraments

It is the stance of OCCNA that all Christians baptized in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit either by triple immersion or infusion (pouring water over the head) are members incorporate in the Body of Christ and should be allowed to fully participate in both the Liturgy and Sacraments of the Church. This belief is founded on the ancient tradition of the Eastern Church who in its wisdom provides the Sacrament of Communion to even infants when they are baptized as all need the true spiritual food of the Body and Blood of Christ to grow in the faith.

Within Dover’s diverse spiritual landscape, the Chapel of the Holy Spirit stands out as a haven for those drawn to traditional and authentic expressions of faith. The chapel’s ritual beauty—marked by incense, iconography, and sacred chant—lends a sense of timelessness that deeply resonates with parishioners. In addition to regular liturgies, the community gathers for prayer, study, and fellowship events, reinforcing bonds that extend beyond Sunday worship.

Under the pastoral care of the Right Reverend Father Thomas Mercer, the chapel nurtures a tight-knit, faithful community. Fr. Mercer—referred to affectionately as “Fr. Thomas” on the parish listing—and Deacon Colin Lehane lead liturgical worship that honors the ancient undivided Church while offering accessible guidance and pastoral care . Attendees often speak of a warm, welcoming atmosphere, where the richness of tradition meets the care of a modern spiritual family.
